You Gotta Love Municipal Administration

At my local municipality this morning:

Me: "Do I have to fill out this part of the form with Latin or Cyrillic letters?"
Municipal rep: "You have to fill it out with a typewriter."
Me: ???
(thinking: "Ah, yes, that perfectly answers my question.")

The joys of dealing with any type of administration in BG...

Latin or Cyrillic? No, a typewriter. :)

This cracked me up,then cracked me up more later when I realized :

1) typewriter! Can't remember when I last saw one.

2) at least one person at your municipality expects everyone filling out that form (every form?) to use a typewriter.

BTW, I've been lurking here for some time, enjoying it, since wandering over from Mrs. Kirilova-Grady's blog. Between the two of you, I've found information supporting my decision not to buy an apartment there.

Hi & welcome (officially)! It always makes me happy when a reader reveals him-/herself by writing :).
Typewriters... yes, Bulgaria can be a little bit antiquated like that. People here have turned filling out forms on a typewriter into a business long ago. Some of them can even notarize your documents on the spot :). So, now I guess I have to hunt some of those people down because even if I were to find a typewriter, I am sure I will make a thousand mistakes by the time I am done filling out that form. The question about the Cyrillic vs. Latin remains though...
